I saw this field of coneflowers (echinea) in bloom from TN Hwy 143 while passing through Roan Mountain State Park. I went back there the next day and did this plein air painting. Most of the coneflowers still had their petals, while others were just the golden-brown cone of seeds. While painting, I watched some goldfinches feasting on the coneflower seeds.
